Cedrus deodara 'Deep Cove' - Deodar Cedar
Deodar Cedars are strikingly handsome Conifers with graceful, drooping branches and a generally fluffy texture. Full-size Deodar Cedars can grow into substantial trees, while dwarf and semidwarf selections can be more easily fitted into smaller gardens. A semidwarf Deodar Cedar, 'Deep Cove' has new growth that starts out a stark white before the needles turn an appealing blue green. Deodar Cedars prosper in practically any well-drained, sunny location. They are notably tolerant of air pollution and appear not to be bothered by any serious pests. Z. 6-9
CEDDEE 2-3 ft. - $29.95

Cedrus deodara 'Gold Cone' - Deodar Cedar
A narrow pyramid of color, 'Gold Cone' wears enchanting yellow-green foliage on pendulous branches. A relatively fast grower, 'Gold Cone' also grows more vertically than horizontally and will take up less space in the garden than many other conifers. Grows to about 20-30 feet high and about a third as wide. Z. 6-9
CEDGOL 18-24 in. - $29.95

Cedrus deodara 'Karl Fuchs' - Deodar Cedar
From high mountains south of Kabul in Afghanistan comes this selection which we believe will prove to be one of the hardiest as well as one of the most attractive Deodar Cedars. New growth emerges a striking bright blue before maturing to green, and as new growth appears in spring and for much of the summer, we are presented with a lovely shimmering effect much of the season. Though hardiness is still being tested, its provenance suggests that it should be fully hardy through Zone 6 and perhaps even colder. Z. 6-9
CEDKAR 12-18 in. - $24.95

Cedrus deodara 'Silver Mist' - Deodar Cedar
Deodar Cedars come in such a variety of colors! 'Silver Mist' looks like a small snow-covered peak. Dense needles and a conical habit make for compact growth, and it may eventually reach 6-9 feet. Shade from afternoon sun is beneficial. Z. 6-9
CEDSIL Full gallon - $24.95

Cedrus deodara 'Twisted Growth' - Deodar Cedar
Branches twist and turn downwards, creating lots of character on this unusual smaller Deodar Cedar. It grows irregularly upright, and some discreet staking while young will help keep it pointed in the right direction! Can eventually reach 8-12 feet in height, perhaps greater if it's particularly well sited. Z. 6-9
CEDTWI 18-24 in. TT - $22.95

Cedrus deodara 'White Imp' - Deodar Cedar
This very pretty form has white needles which mature to silvery gray. It appears to be a compact grower, but we're not yet sure of the mature size of this new introduction. Z. 6-9
CEDWHI 18-24 in. - $24.95

Cedrus libani 'Beacon Hill' - Cedar Of Lebanon
Rich green needles clothe this selection which grows narrowly upright with irregular branching. As the leader is lax, the height can be controlled according to the height to which the leader is staked. Gently descending lateral branches lend an artistic effect to this fine selection. New growth is light green, and it contrasts nicely with the darker green mature needles. Z. 6-9
CEDBEA 18-24 in. - $29.95

Cedrus libani 'Glauca Pendula' - Weeping Cedar Of Lebanon
This distinguished specimen tree forms a narrow column that wends its way upward while strongly pendulous branches hang down. Gray-green needles add to the aristocratic feeling of this selection often found on old estates in the Mediterranean region. Z. 6-9
CEDGLA 30-36 in. - $34.95

Photo of Cephalotaxus fortunei Cephalotaxus fortunei - Chinese Plum Yew
Noticeably longer needles distinguish the Chinese from the better known Japanese Plum Yew. We've seen this remarkably tough species growing as a 6 to 8-foot shrub in northern China, and it seems to prosper in nearly full sun as well as in dense shade. In southern China it can grow into a small tree, and walking under its long, drooping needles produces a decidedly primeval feeling! Z. 6-9
CEPFOR 18-24 in. - $49.95

Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Duke Gardens' - Japanese Plum Yew
A lush, tropical-looking evergreen for moist but well-drained soil, usually in shade, although this selection from North Carolina seems to hold its lustrous deep green color even in full sun. It may eventually reach 4-5 feet tall while spreading 3-4 feet, but very slowly. It has upswept arching branches and spreads in an oval to rounded shape. 2008 PHS Gold Medal Plant Award winner. Z. (5)6-9
CEPDUK 3-qt. pot - $19.95

Photo of Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Fastigiata' Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Fastigiata' - Japanese Plum Yew
A plump columnar form that can grow 10 feet tall while spreading 6-8 feet. The thick, black-green needles are arranged spirally, creating an unusual texture. Z. (5)6-9
CEPFAS 18-24 in. - $29.95

Photo of Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Korean Gold' Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Korean Gold' - Golden Plum Yew
This plant took our breath away when we first came across it a few years ago. The tips are golden yellow to almost white, and its columnar growth habit makes it a perfect focal point for a garden in dappled light or part shade. May reach 8-10 feet high and half as wide. Tips may burn in regions with torrid summers. Z. 6-8
CEPKOR 18-24 in. - $29.95

Photo of Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Prostrata' Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Prostrata' - Japanese Plum Yew
This tropical-looking Japanese Plum Yew can be used as a groundcover, growing 2-4 feet high and spreading 6-10 feet after many years. Glossy, rich green needles are borne on slightly arching branches that droop somewhat as they elongate. An indispensable plant for contrast and texture in the shady border! During a visit to the Chicago area, we observed C. harringtonia 'Prostrata' performing beautifully in protected locations at both the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Morton Arboretum. We see that Zone 5 winters are no impediment to enjoying this lovely Conifer! Winner of both the Georgia and Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Gold Medals. Z. (5)6-9
CEPPRO 1.5-qt. pot - $12.95

Photo of Cryptomeria japonica 'Araucarioides' Cryptomeria japonica 'Araucarioides' - Japanese Cedar
An unusual selection of Japanese Cedar which somewhat resembles the South American Monkey Puzzle Tree, with its open branching habit and long branches that sweep upward and away from the trunk. Needles are also short, and branchlets cluster like fingers at the apex of each branch. Grows slowly to about 20 feet high. Z. 6-9
CRYARA 1.5 gallon - $29.95

Cryptomeria japonica 'Gyokuryu' - Dwarf Japanese Cedar
A softly mounded habit with apple-green needles gives 'Gyokuryu' an irregular globose silhouette in the garden. Grows 3-5 feet tall over time. Z. 6-9
CRYGYO 1.5 gallon - $24.95

Cryptomeria japonica 'Osaka Tama' - Dwarf Japanese Cedar
A new dwarf form from Japan growing in a rounded shape. Needles are a rich dark green, and growth seems to be quite slow. Z. 6-9
CRYOSA 1.5 gallon - $24.95

Photo of Cryptomeria japonica 'Spiraliter Falcata' Cryptomeria japonica 'Spiraliter Falcata' - Japanese Cedar
An upright dwarf Cryptomeria with thin light green branches—finely foliaged— which twist and curve. It's quite slow growing but can eventually reach 3-5 feet. This old Japanese cultivar is still quite a conversation piece. Z. 6-9
CRYSPI 18-24 in. - $24.95

Photo of Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Ogon' Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Ogon' - Golden Dawn Redwood
The type of knocks-your-socks-off plant that we all live (or die) for. The golden-yellow foliage is superb both up close and from afar, and the color holds up in 90-degree-plus summer weather, as long as it is planted with some afternoon shade. May not grow quite as quickly as the species. For best color, be sure it receives good morning sun. 2008 Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Gold Medal Plant Award winner. Z. 5-8
METOGO 4-5 ft. Add'l. H. - $69.95

  Picea brachytyla - Sargent Spruce
This is one of those Conifers that is so sublimely beautiful that it merits a prominent place in the garden. The short needles are greenish above and bluish below, and the dense branches are carried horizontally before curving upward; the terminal branchlets are pendulous. The graceful character of this Spruce is somewhat reminiscent of Deodar Cedar. Native to the mountains of western Hubei in China, Sargent Spruce grows slowly to a medium-sized tree. Z. 6-7(8)
PICBRA 12-18 in. - $24.95

Photo of Picea mariana 'Golden' Picea mariana 'Golden' - Black Spruce
A medium-sized Spruce, native from the far North down to the mountains of Virginia, this unusual selection sports new buds in spring which are colored bright yellow. As the needles expand they take on blue-gray tones while retaining a cream-yellow upper surface, eventually becoming completely bluish green. It grows upright with broad-spreading horizontal branches. Z. 3-5(6)
PICGOL 24-30 in. 025 - $39.95
