Photo of Campsis x tagliabuana Indian Summer Campsis x tagliabuana Indian Summer - Hybrid Trumpet Vine
Recently introduced from the Netherlands, this attractive hybrid of the American and Chinese Trumpet Vines produces 3-inch orange-red flowers in large, hanging clusters nearly all summer. It's sturdy, easy to grow and flowers readily even while young, yet it reaches only some 12 feet, much less than the native Trumpet Vine, which regularly engulfs power poles in our area! Full sun in not too rich soil will give best results. Attractive to Hummingbirds. PP 13189. Z. 4-10
CAMIND 1.5 gallon - $25.95

Photo of Clematis 'Huldine' Clematis 'Huldine' - Clematis
If you need a white Clematis, you can hardly do better than 'Huldine'. Scads of pearly white 3-4-inch flowers smother the vine in June, and it blooms on and on till late summer—without doubt the best repeat-blooming white Clematis. It can scramble over a spring-blooming shrub to extend its season of interest, or as the late English garden writer Christopher Lloyd recommended, you can grow it up a pole or over a high wall so that you can experience a marvelous see-through effect when viewed from below. Z. 4-8

CLEBLU Full gallon - $19.95

Photo of Clematis macropetala 'Lagoon' Clematis macropetala 'Lagoon' - Clematis
Clematis macropetala is one of our favorites, vigorous and easy to grow. Its superhardy stems overwinter in all but bitterly cold winters enabling the vine to put on a glorious display of small to medium-sized flowers on old wood in spring, followed by sporadic repeat bloom on new wood through summer. 'Lagoon' is a splendid new release which produces deep blue flowers with contrasting cream-colored staminodes in the center, fresh and appealing in spring and a delight through summer. Z. 3-7
CLELAG Full gallon - $19.95

Photo of Clematis tibetana Clematis tibetana - Orange-Peel Clematis

Photo of Clematis x durandii Clematis x durandii - Clematis
Rich indigo-blue flowers, 4 inches across, decorate this lax, non-clinging vine from summer into fall. Photo of Hydrangea anomala ssp. petiolaris Hydrangea anomala ssp. petiolaris - Climbing Hydrangea
It is difficult to avoid superlatives in describing this plant, which many plantsmen consider the best climbing vine. White lacecap flowers appear in late spring or early summer and are beautifully displayed against the glossy, dark green leaves. The leaves fall in late autumn revealing the richly-colored flaking tan bark of the twigs. This vine will attach itself to brick or stone walls or to tree trunks, where it provides four seasons of beauty. Grows well in full sun or considerable shade, though it's at its best with at least a little shade. Z. 5-7(8)
HYDPET Full gallon - $22.95

Hydrangea anomala ssp. petiolaris 'Kuga Variegated' - Variegated Climbing Hydrangea

HYDKUG 3-qt. pot - $22.95

Photo of Hydrangea anomala ssp. petiolaris 'Mirranda' Hydrangea anomala ssp. petiolaris 'Mirranda' - Variegated Climbing Hydrangea
A few summers ago we had the pleasure of visiting Guy and Jeanie Meacham's nursery in Oregon, and Jeanie pointed out their wonderful new introduction—a variegated Climbing Hydrangea! The dark green leaves are edged with irregular yellow variegation. White lacecap flowers appear in late spring or early summer, and, like the normal all-green species, this selection will attach itself to brick walls and tree trunks. Grows best in dappled light or shade, and Guy and Jeanie say that it grows somewhat more slowly than the species. Z. 5-7(8)
